"Fake Moves on the Street" is a theater project that stages performances and actions in urban spaces, inviting participants through open recruitment. On June 17, 2023, the first performance, titled “Throwing and Catching Games”, was completed. The performance consisted of three acts: Throwing and Catching Games, Dongxiao Road, and The Light Boat. The performance took place along Changgang East Road and Dongxiao Road in Guangzhou's Haizhu District, which marked the boundary of lockdown measures at the end of 2022. Audience members were required to register their "entry" by performing fake actions, while actors tossed and caught imaginary objects along a fictional wall. The performance ended when all the actors crossed the Haiyin Bridge.


Artist|Director

Xueying Peng (b. 1995) is an artist, curator, and organizer. Her artistic practice is rooted in specific socio-cultural contexts and everyday experiences, exploring the dynamic relationships between identity, memory, space, and power. From late 2021 to early 2024, she initiated the "A Chic-chat Theater" project, opening her home in Guangzhou as a space for a series of public events and activities. Since 2023, she has been leading the "Fake Moves on the Street" Theater project, staging performances and interventions in urban spaces through a blend of fiction and reality. She also occasionally performs solo or creates spontaneous happenings. Lately, she enjoys waking up at 10 a.m. and basking in the sun.


Presenter

Alice CHEN,  artist. All of her works in the art field will be carried out under the overarching title of "Positive Art Research Center," whether in the form of creating personal works, initiating projects, curating, or coordinating. The important collective art projects she initiated and curated include: “Project Terrace @1431 Huaihai Middle Road" from 2020 to 2022 and "Is Shan Shui Useful Today?" from 2023 to 2025.  Her personal work Decision!  And the documents of "Project Terrace @1431 Huaihai Middle Road” is collected by Power Station of Art in China and Centre Pompidou in France. Important exhibitions she has participated in include:“Post-Sense Sensibility" in Beijing in 1999, “Alors, la Chine?" in 2003 and “China, A New Generation of Artists” in 2024 both at Centre Pompidou in France.



“ Throwing and Catching Games documents a prop-free feint performance on the streets of Guangzhou. It took place on June 17, 2023, half a year after the abrupt end of the pandemic.

On a freezing night at the end of 2023 in Hangzhou, I watched this theatrical video. Five minutes in, I realized my eyes were brimming with tears—and for the rest of the video, my emotions ebbed and flowed with the young performers on screen, laughing and crying alongside them. Why was this happening?! I hadn’t expected it at all.

Both the performance and the video itself feel so organic that there is no sense of deliberate staging; they complement each other perfectly. The performance resembles a collectively immersive act guided by a loose script, where improvisation and chance unfold in a truly magical way.

“街头假动作”是在城市空间开展表演和行动的剧场项目,通过公开招募的方式召集参与者。2023年6月17日完成了第一期名为《抛接球游戏》的演出。整个演出共三幕:抛接球游戏、东晓路、轻快的船。演出地点在广州海珠区昌岗东路和东晓路沿线,那是2022年底海珠区的封控边界。现场观众需配合假动作登记“入场”,一路上演员沿一面虚构的围墙抛接虚构的物件。过了海印桥,表演结束。


艺术家|导演

彭雪莹(b.1995),她做创作,也策划展览和活动。其艺术实践植根于具体的社会文化语境和日常生活经验,探索身份、记忆、空间与权力的动态关系。2021年底至2024年初,她发起“一旧云剧场”项目,尝试把自己在广州的住处开放出来并策划一系列公共活动和事件;2023年至今,她发起“街头假动作”剧场项目,以虚构和真实交织的方式在城市空间中开展表演和行动。她也会自己一个人演出或搞点什么动静。最近喜欢早上十点醒来晒太阳。

Alice 陈,艺术家。Alice 陈所有艺术范畴内的工作都会在“正向艺术研究会”这个总标题下展开,无论是以个人作品创作、项目发起、活动策划组织等不同形式。其发起并策动的集体艺术项目有:2020年-2022的「露台计划之淮海中路1431号」以及 2023-2025的「今天“山水”有用吗?”」。其个人作品《决定!》以及此作品附赠的“露台计划之淮海中路1431号”文献资料收藏于中国的上海当代艺术博物馆以及法国的蓬皮杜艺术中心。参加过的重要展览有1999年的北京的“后感性”,以及法国的蓬皮杜艺术中心举办于2003年的「那么 中国?」以及2024年的「目:中国境象」展览等。


“《抛接球游戏》记录了一场发生在广州街头的无道具假动作的表演行动,那是2023年6月17日,疫情戛然而止的半年后。2023年底杭州极冷的一个晚上,我看到了这部戏剧影像。影片开始的5分钟后,我发现我的泪水满溢了眼眶——之后的整场影片,我的情绪一直在随着片中的年轻人在起起伏伏,哭哭笑笑。为什么会这样?!我完全没有预料到。

演出和戏剧影像都自然到完全没有了经营感,两者相得益彰。演出很像是一场有剧本大纲的集体沉浸入戏式的行动,即兴和偶然来得神奇。
