À propos de l'événement

About the documentary「The Two Lives of Li Ermao」

Although Li Ermao was born male, she has lived for many years as a ladyboy (transgender woman). Performing in nightclubs, she still longs for true love and acceptance. This film spans 17 years of her life, showcasing both her resilience and vulnerability as she faces prejudice and even violence.

Later, she and her boyfriend move to the countryside, attempting to start a new life in harsh conditions by working on the family’s land. However, she once again experiences rejection from society. Eventually, she returns to the city—a place where the pressures faced by transgender people in China often lead to breakdowns.

Over the years, filmmaker Jia Yuchuan steps beyond his initial role as an impartial observer, becoming part of the story, almost like a brother to Li. In the narration, he expresses concern and appears to help when Li faces challenges. This subjective approach only amplifies the film’s emotional impact.

Director: Jia Yuchuan

Jia Yuchuan, originally from Henan Province, was born in Chongqing in 1961. He graduated in 1990 with a degree in photography from Wuhan University. His photography and video works have been featured in numerous domestic and international exhibitions, earning multiple awards. His works often focus on the marginalized and disadvantaged groups in Shenzhen, conveying compassion and empathy, and drawing significant social attention.
